Forthcoming Events: Annual Lecture and Annual Workshop

Posted on

This week is an exciting one for the network, as we will be running both of the flagship events in our 2016-17 programme. Here is a reminder of the details for both:

Thursday 2nd March 2017 – Annual Lecture

Intimate Relationships Between Alleged Opposites: Empire and Nation in Habsburg Central Europe, 1848-1930’ by Professor Pieter Judson (European University Institute, Florence)

Bateman Auditorium, Gonville and Caius College, 5-7pm

Please note that the location has changed slightly from that issued on our earlier termcard, but will still be in Gonville and Caius. A full abstract and further information can be found here. Once Professor Judson has tackled the big themes of nationalism and imperialism in the Habsburg Monarchy of the 19th century, on the following day we will have the opportunity to delve into the details of  this period’s rich cultural life, as our annual workshop hosts a full afternoon of talks and discussions on this theme:

Friday 3rd March 2017 – Annual Workshop

Cultural Histories of the Habsburg Empire c.1800-1920’  featuring Martin Schaller (St Andrews), Clara Gallistl (Vienna), Markian Prokopovych (Birmingham). Julia Ilgner (Freiburg), Annja Neumann (Cambridge) and Claire Morelon (Oxford)

Senior Parlour, Gonville and Caius College, 1:30-6:30pm

All are welcome to come for part or all of this free event, with no registration necessary. Full abstracts for all the talks and a timetable for the afternoon are available here. We look forward to seeing you there to round off what has been an enjoyable and wide-ranging term for the Network; many thanks to everyone who has attended and contributed to our events.
